In March 2023, the Governments of Tajikistan and the Netherlands will co-host the UN 2023 Water Conference, supporting to achieve the internationally agreed water-related goals and targets, including those contained in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The Netherlands and Tajikistan, as co-hosts of the Conference, will strive to make the Conference a watershed moment for the world. Their vision for the Conference is that we all fundamentally understand, value and manage water better and take concerted action to achieve the internationally agreed water-related goals and targets, including those contained in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Relevant stakeholders, including non-governmental organisations, civil society organisations, academic institutions, the scientific community, the private sector and philanthropic organisations, and other actors, whose work is relevant to the UN 2023 Water Conference, will be able to request registration to participate as observers in the Conference and in its preparatory meeting on 25 October 2022. The President of the UN General Assembly will be holding this one-day preparatory meeting, at United Nations Headquarters in New York, to finalize the themes for the interactive dialogues and other outstanding organisational matters of the Conference.
